Melanie has always been active and passionate about exercise. Growing up she played basketball, softball, and was on a Summer diving team. In high school she played on a highly ranked basketball team. She attended Virginia Commonwealth University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science with a focus on Athletic Training. While at VCU Melanie was the Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Richmond Renegades in the East Coast Hockey League and volunteered in the training room for VCU Athletics. In her 20’s she was a certified personal trainer, backpacked Europe, landed a job on the trading floor at Legg Mason where she met Chris.
Together they started mountain biking and discovered endurance mountain bike racing, competing in events varying from 13 hours, 24 hours, and 100 milers. This led to road biking and Tour de France trips. After having two sons Melanie needed a way to stay in good shape with less of a time commitment than a multi-hour bike ride. This is where she stumbled upon ReVamped, met Gary, and discovered new physical challenges that complemented her athletic background and interest in training.
“I absolutely love being pushed past a point where I had no idea I could mentally and physically succeed. Fitness has opened my eyes to retraining your body and mind while learning how to fuel yourself in a balanced way. My goal is to learn something physically new every year like wake-surfing, snowboarding, yoga headstands, and whatever Gary throws at us! The comradery and positive competitive atmosphere at ReVamped is awesome and I hope to help people discover how strong and balanced they can be. Raising two sons is very busy. I want to show people that you can care for your family and still achieve your own athletic goals, whether that is being healthy and fit or competing in sports. In fact, I believe that prioritizing your own fitness helps you in all aspects of your life.”
